I can't suggest specific shows, but I've often thought that the qualities I love in the music from their early years -- crystal clarity, transcendental boldness, delicate precision -- owe a lot to acid, but I enjoy the later years (post '77) much less because the playing often sounds soft around the edges, vague & squishy, and that this was from opiates.

Psychedelics always made me feel extremely clear, perceptive, and infinitely delicate while opiates (my only experience being prescribed painkillers) generally made me feel only warm, fuzzy, and sloppy. It has sometimes seemed to me that acid led them to Dark Star, Playin' and Eyes, but heroin only took them to Shakedown Street. (I know, a childish over-simplification; but you get the point).

hmmmm and I always thought of Shakedown as "disco dead"

Shakedown = disco = studio 54 = coke

But what the hell do I know.

I tend to agree with the 60's early to mid 70's analysis, but there is some pretty good late 70's and early 80's out there - maybe not as consistent but there.

not only to shakedown st, but further down to the end of the road > early grave (horse always does that, no exceptions)

the ever present companion - lady jane (in all forms) influenced the sound, immensely and in the most positive way, throughout 65 > 95

It was probably the shooting of his common law wife that helped WSB. If he wasn't a Junky he probably would have lived till 150.

Nothing quite like getting Drunk in Mexico and playing William Tell with your wife.

keith has probably replaced everything changeable in his body. hardly the same man. the amount hes payin for maintenance surely equals or tops the funds needed to feed 1000 families in ethiopia for 10 years

gettin drunk in mexico and playin william tell w/ your wife is a much better option for sure
